Larry Belling is an American writer based in London since 1996, who has recently written two screenplays and a theatrical play. The play, “Nurse Lily,” will be produced at a regional theatre in America in 2008 starring Stacy Keach.
For seven years Larry was affiliated with Cap Gemini Ernst & Young, (now known as Capgemini), Europe’s largest IT services and business consultancy. He wrote and published a daily global newsletter that 55,000 employees viewed on a website he helped create. He later performed similar duties for Organon, the pharmaceutical division of Akzo Nobel.
As a sideline he often does voiceover work (when American accents are required) for commercials, industrial films and documentaries for the Discovery Channel, PBS and the BBC.
Born in Oakland, California and educated at the University of California at Berkeley, Larry started his career as a press agent for Broadway shows in New York in the '60s and worked on more than 50 plays and musicals including productions of the New York Shakespeare Festival and Circle-in-the-Square. In England during the '70s he publicised films shooting on location. He also managed musical artists and record producers including Grammy award-winning James Guthrie, who co-produced and engineered all Pink Floyd albums including and since "The Wall," and Jimmy Miller, producer of the Rolling Stones.
In the '80s in Los Angeles Larry founded a commercials production company and recording studio (Slippery Studios) that created mostly radio spots and jingles but some television commercials for clients including the major Hollywood movie studios and television networks. He won Clio Awards, IBAs, New York and Los Angeles Advertising Clubs, and other awards for commercials he wrote and produced for American Express, the Los Angeles Police Department, Molson Beer labels in Canada, Greenpeace, Universal Television and the African Wildlife Foundation (in a series starring Jimmy Stewart).
Prior to moving to England in 1996, he consulted to media, and entertainment companies in California and New York which were developing strategic plans for content distributed by web sites and ISPs including AOL. He also consulted to cable and satellite TV companies, telecoms, Sony Corporation, the Electric Library, the first successful online reference library, and Universal Studios.
In the late 80s, after falling in love with his Macintosh Computer, Larry developed Writer's Dreamtools, five HyperCard stacks that were well reviewed by the New York Times and Mac computer press. For several years in the early 90s, Larry was creative director and co-founder of a Silicon Valley multimedia company called Creative Insights developing computerized musical instruments for children, computer learning aids and toys.
He is married to film and television producer Davina Belling and they maintain homes in London and White Lake, New York.
