The first woman was executed as a witch today in America. The German battleship Bismarck was sunk in France with 2,300 lost lives. The lead ship in a 76-vessel convoy hit an iceberg and 22 other ships ploughed into each other. Five people died in a bombing outside the Uffizi Gallery in Florence. Also dead: John Calvin, Niccolo Paganini, Robert Ripley and Ezzard Charles. St. Petersburg became the new Russian capital. Cellophane tape was patented. 200,000 people walked across the newly opened Golden Gate Bridge in San Fran. Slobodan Milosevic was indicted as a war criminal. The Japanese Navy beat the Russkies in the Battle of Tsushima. Birthday celebrants: Wild Bill Hickock, Dashiell Hammett, Hank Kissinger and Herman Wouk.
